A buffalo that went viral online over its resemblance to US President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0has been spared from ritual slaughter in\u00a0Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

The 700kg albino buffalo, nicknamed \u201cDonald Trump\u201d for its flowing blond hair and distinctive fringe, was taken into official custody on Wednesday, hours before it was due to be sacrificed for Eid celebrations.<\/p>\n

Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority country, celebrates Eid al-Adha with the ritual sacrifice of livestock.<\/p>\n

But \u201cBuffalo Trump\u201d was granted a last-minute reprieve after local authorities raised security concerns following a surge of public interest.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the last moment, the decision was taken to spare the \u200bbuffalo from sacrifice due to security concerns and \u200bthe unusual level of public interest,\u201d the country\u2019s Home Ministry said.<\/p>\n

Curious visitors travelled long distances to catch a glimpse of the four-year-old bovine, which became known for both its blond locks and calm temperament.<\/p>\n

The buffalo will now be relocated to the national zoo in Dhaka, where it will be cared for.<\/p>\n

The animal\u2019s former owner, Ziauddin Mridha, said his younger brother gave it the nickname after spotting the resemblance to Trump.<\/p>\n
